Wednesday Wit

SO I missed the bus today... which is bad, but hey mama said there'd be days like this. My love got to leave early from work because he had facial hair. Yea. SO what's an out-of-work couple to do on a wednesday afternoon?? We're going OUT!

Some inspirational quotes for your wednesday...

The basic rule of human nature is that powerful people speak slowly and subservient people quickly -- because if they don't speak fast nobody will listen to them.
-Michael Caine

Life is so unlike theory.
-Anthony Trollope

TOMORROW,
I will put up another painting of mine... and we will also be going BACK to work.

Meek Page 16: Untitled

Ballet. I'm taking it and there is so much nostalgia. And wow, ballet slippers and leggings just go so well together!
Latest:Just pencil this time. I've shown the girl on the left already. There's a tsunami warning in SoCal? Sorry, off topic... I just read a warning. Well, I'm itching to go see these twenty-something foot waves now! But, back to the sketch. I'm not in a sketching mood lately, so I probably won't be doing much in the next couple of weeks. A lot of other things going on.. very important things that will need my full attention. I don't want to stop blogging though, so I think I'll change some things up to make it more manageable.

Monday Blues Cure Inspiration

Weather's getting cooler... jackets and scarves are coming out from hiding... I see more clouds in the sky. Could it really be fall? I have waited so long.

Check out this place for more fall fashion ideas. It's another site like stylesightings.com. I love how the people featured are not all professional designers.

Here is a monday blues cure inspirational image:

I chose this image because my old roommates and I have totally done this before. One night we went to see Diva's in Denial (a drag show) and were given stick on mustaches which we wore all the way home and then had a party, not taking them off of course. My favorite one was on my tree-talking friend, MM, because it was gray and her hair and eyebrows are pitch black. These boys are so cute!! Image from imgfave, no other source.

Fryyyyyday Style Inspiration!

Yes, it's FRIDAY, after yet another week that just ran on by! Yesterday, I started my classes at the university once again. To think that in a few short months, it'll all be over and I'll have a portfolio of research under my belt is so crazy. I am so anxious. This year is going to fly by, exactly like this week. I know it, because it's the same every year. The slowest days are the last ones before due dates (which I am not at all excited for).

I received some pictures today from a photoshoot I did with Bryan N. Miller! I've been excited to see these pictures. I've been waiting patiently. This was a wedding dress search photoshoot. You can see more of his lovely work here. Check out his portfolio and blog! No, I'm not really getting married, but the people in the rest of his portfolio have (and looked beautiful doing it). This was so fun and inspirational for a sketch. Wedding themed? Yes. Coming soon? I hope. I'm working on the baybee themed one as well as some more fall fashion. You're probably thinking, babies... wedding dresses... am I plotting something? No, but a girl can daydream right?! It's all in the near future, no worries, no rush. Happy Friday Everyone!!

P.S. My love hasn't seen these pictures yet. I am so excited to come home and show him. He's cool though, he won't freak out.

Wednesday Wit.

Here's a little outfit sketch I did the other day.

I wrote this letter to the heat today:

Dear End of Summer Heat,
Go away. I want Fall fashion to begin, but it doesn't work if you're still here. So go, please. You can come visit once in a while, hopefully later than sooner, but really, did you not get the memo? Autumn, my love, officially began!

My friend Nicollette told me to watch this:

I needed to share! It's such a cute little fantasy.

Autumn Inspiration

It's the first day of my favorite season! Now, if only the heat would subside and leave us with the cloudy skies and chilly winds of Autumn so I can wear my coats and boots! I'm so excited for hats, scarves, and jackets. I'm even more excited about the cool weather! Today I've been looking at fall fashion and pictures of fall in general.

This is by this pretty picture taker.

HAPPY FALL EQUINOX! To celebrate, listen to this beautiful new song (but try to ignore how trendy it's about to be, it really is a good song).

Also, check out this cool place. There are some amazing fall fashion inspirations!

Monday Blues Cure!

So after an absolutely fantastic weekend in Los Angeles, I'm back to San Diego with tons of work and errands to do (with only a few short days to do them in). So I need this, I really need this. You probably also need this, and here it is! Some inspiration for getting through a tough week and some ideas for art and such:

I've been thinking about babies and kids a lot lately and having dreams and reading mommy blogs (esp this one), so when I saw this it made me smile:
Once again Imgfave has only provided a blog that the image was on. That blog is also where I found this lovely little quote from an unknown author:

"You change for two reasons: either you learn enough that you want to or you’ve been hurt enough that you have to."

I have to agree there. But, back to the baby topic... I think I just found a new sketch theme!!

I also found this super cute sketch today by this artist:

P.S. This is my 50th post. Wow!

Meek Page 15: The Big Easy NoLa

I'll let you guess the theme for this one. I used only pigment liners this time. This is a collage of some of the things I saw, tasted, heard, etc.

A little more about New Orleans...

Enjoy some NoLa beauty...

So I'm back from a different world. I mean culture-wise it was really different from SoCal, once you got past the tourists who mixed it all up. It was lovely and lively! I'm sure glad to be in San Diego weather again.

Pictures:
All taken by me except for the first and last one. Those were taken by my friend MM. Remember, the one that talked to trees when she was little.

In other news, I'm working on a sketch and I'm getting back into my paintings... So that's coming soon!

Back from the Big Easy...

Honestly, this little trip was more than I thought it would be. We did so much in just 4 days! New Orleans was so inspirational, I took notes for at least 5 new paintings and sketches. I have new artists to add to my "LISTEN EVERYDAY music" list (thanks pandora!). I do have to say Bourbon St. is some crazy partying. As in, it's monday, it's before noon, and yet people (of literally all ages) are drinking the infamous hurricanes and hand grenades (which I didn't try... looked like a green slushie). Preservation Hall Jazz band was amazing and how ironic that we found a RUSSIAN poster inside the hall about when the band visited the Soviet Union to perform (love that!). Of course, the food was delicious, the people laid back, the tourists swarmed the streets, the poor areas stood out (I guess like everywhere else) in contrast from the lovely and charming French Quarter (even though it was itself falling apart). We braved 2 thunderstorms and the hot scorching sun with 90% humidity (made me REALLY appreciate San Diego and Los Angeles weather). One thing I loved was that clubs and bars were filled with people of ALL ages, which is not something I see in Los Angeles where its way more age segregated. It was funny, we found ourselves more often in the blues and jazz clubs with an older crown as the majority. That's not saying the dance clubs with the crazy girls clinging to mardi gras beads weren't fun too. On that topic, we saw some freaky stuff. Two things I'm not going to miss: Being dripped on when walking under awnings (found everywhere!) and mosquito bites. Here's a little list of some favorites:
  1. Dancing with my love, lots of dancing
  2. Beignets covered in mounds of powdered sugar
  3. The Funky Pirate Blues club!! Big "Al" Carson and that other guy... amazing on stage
  4. Sweet Tea... I might consider putting sugar in my tea again (I haven't done that for at least 5 years)
  5. Jambalaya and Andouille sausage
  6. Local beer
  7. Gorgeous balconies with basically a garden of plants covering them and the old world buildings
  8. French horns part of every band
  9. That random guy with the amazing voice standing next to our cafe and singing "Wade in the Water" (one of my favorite songs)
  10. Being surrounded by some of the craziest, wildest people ever (of ALL ages... I'm not talking only college kids here).

But really, I can't put everything we saw/did/experienced into words. I'll post some proof soon! :-}

Oh and...
Dear Airplane snacks,
Thank you for being my sad excuse for a lunch at work. Since I'm not mentally present after a tiresome airplane ride back, there was no other choice but you in the morning. Too bad you guys are all so bite-size. Really, even for a three hour ride, you are just too small.

It's thursday...

Usually I'd have a sketch up today, but since it's my birthday week and we're leaving to New Orleans tomorrow, I've been a little behind on it all. I can't tell you how excited I am about tomorrow! So today I'm going to show off some pictures I've found of New Orleans. I'll be back on Tuesday with my own images!!

Be back in a few days!

Here's a beautiful sketch I found today:

Meek Page 14: Confidential Party

Happy Saturday! Latest sketch... I've been putting this one together for a while. One thing you probably don't know yet is that I have multiple sketches going on at once. It's makes things more interesting. The "eleven twenty" part is actually a time (p.m.) that is special. My favorite part has to be the girl in the bottom corner being choked my vines of ivy. Again I used both pencil and pigment liners, but no color this time.

Oh, and birthday outfit: Check! Off to enjoy the weather!

Friday's (Not) Finding Fashion and Four Inspirations (21)

Fridays come and Fridays go. I am terribly excited for the week to come. It's my birthday on Tuesday and we leave to New Orleans on Friday! So many plans still to make, so many things to clean, pack, and get done. For my birthday I want a new dress and maybe some new shoes.

Here are some I've found: here. I want them ALL.

While searching for a dress, I've realized how much I took for granted when I lived in Los Angeles! For example, I love FCUK and Marciano for sexy dresses. Those are two places I would just LOVE to go right now and try on dresses, but guess what the big city of San Diego does not have them. The closest stores are in LA and I can't just up and go anytime! So I've been trying to make do with what we do have. No luck yet, but the search will continue this Saturday.

I'm finishing up a sketch that I hope to post tomorrow. YES!

Four inspirations for Friday:

Have a lovely long weekend! Thanks for coming by!

Meek Page 13: Sexes

More color! A little bit of worried love, some dancing, some sadness, a few pensive faces, and some super cliche quotes about the sexes. I'm very happy with it. I used pencil, black pigment liners, and a little bit of blue watercolor. It all started with the woman in the upper right corner, if it matters.

As a little side note, I found this art project on Lubov's Column today. I love this song and the animation is amazing.

Wednesday Wit (20)

Some witty quotes and beautiful images for this hot, hot Wednesday...

Maybe it's because my birthday is so soon, maybe it's something else, but I want flowers. A lot of them and all over my house. In vases and pitchers and pots.

I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book.
-Groucho MarxSometimes you gotta create what you want to be a part of.
- Geri WeitzmanI didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it.
- Mark Twain Wow, in one week from Friday my love and I will be on a plane to NOLA.

(All images from imgfave.com and there were no sources)

P.S. I'm done with my newest sketch. Will post tomorrow!!
