Meek Page 19: Mad House

I've been too busy to update this daily :( But here is my latest sketch!
I'm not going to explain much. The inspiration for this comes from the past couple of months of my life. You can look at this as a mix of listening to "Touch Me I'm Going to Scream Pt. 2" by My Morning Jacket, "G4L" by Rihanna, and "White Blank Page" by Mumford and Sons, while driving to a meeting, planning a community service trip to Tijuana, and writing a research proposal that you'll be working on until March 2010 (among other things like classes, the 9-5, and you know a personal life). I should probably add a variety of Russian songs to that list too. Yes, exactly...all over the place like the sketch, but it's been a little chaotic around here lately. Got2Run!

Blogging Vacation

I'll be back soon! But for now, I'm deep within the trenches of academia. My research design is intense, my mental strength is fading. Excuse the vacation, for in research proposal waters I'm wading. Did that just rhyme? I really need to go now.

That's from my home themed sketch, a few months back. And that's how I feel right now, except I have pants on.

P.S.
I'm hoping to preview my new blog Cosmetically Conscious on Friday October 30, just as the last moments of October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month) are leaving us.

P.P.S.
I also want to thank Meryl for her beautiful guest post while I was out of town! I loved it. She should start her own blog! Just an idea...

GUEST SKETCH- by Meryl MM

This sketch is my first completed one in my Moleskine (given as a gift by Anastasiya). There are multiple themes that run through this sketch, and I think they can be summed up with 5 words:
time, distance, love, freedom, movement
The drawing is completely different from my first ideas for it, as the original inspiration was the view of the La Jolla coastline. I had the coastline sketched for a while, until I finally decided that I didn't like it and took it completely out.
The
lines and swirls represent wind, and that's the only aspect I carried forward to the present sketch. I was into drawing faces at the time, so I was just experimenting with them on the page, and thought it would be a cool idea if they didn't have structured faces and just morphed into the wind, while the wind also morphed into the bird (the movement aspect of the sketch).
If you look closely, there are words by the clock and the compass, which state one side of the ironic views of time and distance (whether they heal or do the opposite).

I love the way this sketch turned out, and I'm simultaneously working on about 4 others, as I switch between them when I get bored/frustrated. The next one that will most likely be completed is a design inspired by windows I saw durin
g my trip to India this summer.
Here are images similar to my own inspiration (i love everything with these types of designs):

Thursday Excitment!

It's Thursday, but tomorrow is Friday and that means it's our 5 year anniversary trip to Vegas!
My friend Meryl (you remember, the one who used to talk to trees as a little girl!) has just finished her sketch (in a moleskine YEA!). Tomorrow, she'll be here doing a guest post and showing off her new artwork! Exciting?! Yes! See you on Monday!
Here's some inspirational images for your weekend! Do some art!!!
Check out this artist's FLICKR!

Found through imgfave who linked it to Saturnic's Livejournal.

Wednesday Wit...

A while ago, I found this amazingly talented artist: Anna Rusakova
I was excited to see that she does Moleskine collages too! Her artwork is incredibly intricate and I love her detailing! She is from Kiev, Ukraine and most of the writing in her sketches is in Russian.

Some of my favorites by her:

How's that for inspiration!

Monday Blues Cure!

Here is some gorgeous inspiration for this Monday which is NOT that bad today:

No original sources. Found on Imgfave.

I guess it's because it's not a regular Monday. It's October 12th. It's our anniversary. We're celebrating five incredibly amazing years together.

Friday!

Busy day. Breast cancer prevention links will have to wait a bit. Instead today I want to show two sketches from some of the earlier posts.

Wednesday Wit - Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In honor of this important month, I want to post some beautiful quotes about cancer. I love how quotes can sometimes sum up a feeling that you can write about for pages and pages. Some of these quotes do that.

During chemo, you're more tired than you've ever been. It's like a cloud passing over the sun, and suddenly you're out. You don't know how you'll answer the door when your groceries are delivered. But you also find that you're stronger than you've ever been. You're clear. Your mortality is at optimal distance, not up so close that it obscures everything else, but close enough to give you depth perception. Previously, it has taken you weeks, months, or years to discover the meaning of an experience. Now it's instantaneous. ~Melissa Bank

One must not forget that recovery is brought about not by the physician, but by the sick man himself. He heals himself, by his own power, exactly as he walks by means of his own power, or eats, or thinks, breathes or sleeps. ~Georg Groddeck

This next one isn't directly related, but can be applied to so many experiences in life:
When the Japanese mend broken objects, they aggrandize the damage by filling the cracks with gold. They believe that when something's suffered damage and has a history it becomes more beautiful. ~Barbara Bloom

I hope any woman that reads this is doing self-check exams weekly and gets her annual exam every single year. The doctor keeps telling me to come back in 2, but I still go every year. There are so many preventive measure to take! Mammograms, vegetables, soy, exercise, and so much more. I'll post some of those tomorrow or friday.

Meek Page 17: She Can Take Her Someday

Well what do you know... I came home today and really wanted to do something in my moleskine. Just when I least expected it, with my busy busy busy schedule. Here it is:

I stuck gold leaf in several places. The roses aren't attached but I plan to leave them there so they can dry between the pages. I love weddings, but I've only been to one and I was the flower girl so it was a while ago. By the way, wouldn't it be cute to have a woman as the flower girl instead of an 8 year old? It would be so avant-garde! In June 2010, I'll be attending another one and watching a friend of many, many years strut beautifully down the aisle! So exciting.

Monday Blues Cure

I'm in for a tough week. On a brighter note, I'm looking to order some mags! I'm looking at Vegetarian Times, Health, and Cooking Light. Any other suggestions? I also want to announce that I'm working on a new blog which will be called Cosmetically Conscious. It will follow my journey in search of cleaner cosmetics without the unnecessary chemicals they have all to often. Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I want to open the blog within the next few weeks. Stay tuned for more details on that!

I found this crazy cool photographer: Lilya Corneli

I want to sketch this!

I saw (and liked) this today: "If it weren't for double standards, I wouldn't have standards at all."

First of the Month-- Painting! (3)

Hello October!
I have a perfect painting to show you! I made it for my love two years ago and it now hangs in our home. I found some autumn colored leaves and sketched out a little collage of them. This took layers of paint, mostly because I kept changing the colors of the leaves. At the end, I was really happy with the texture.
As a side note, the picture in the first photo left of my painting is not by me. I don't even know who it's by. I cut it out of a poster once and put it on a black background. Looks great, wish I'd done it.

Wednesday Wit

SO I missed the bus today... which is bad, but hey mama said there'd be days like this. My love got to leave early from work because he had facial hair. Yea. SO what's an out-of-work couple to do on a wednesday afternoon?? We're going OUT!

Some inspirational quotes for your wednesday...

The basic rule of human nature is that powerful people speak slowly and subservient people quickly -- because if they don't speak fast nobody will listen to them.
-Michael Caine

Life is so unlike theory.
-Anthony Trollope

TOMORROW,
I will put up another painting of mine... and we will also be going BACK to work.

Meek Page 16: Untitled

Ballet. I'm taking it and there is so much nostalgia. And wow, ballet slippers and leggings just go so well together!
Latest:Just pencil this time. I've shown the girl on the left already. There's a tsunami warning in SoCal? Sorry, off topic... I just read a warning. Well, I'm itching to go see these twenty-something foot waves now! But, back to the sketch. I'm not in a sketching mood lately, so I probably won't be doing much in the next couple of weeks. A lot of other things going on.. very important things that will need my full attention. I don't want to stop blogging though, so I think I'll change some things up to make it more manageable.

Monday Blues Cure Inspiration

Weather's getting cooler... jackets and scarves are coming out from hiding... I see more clouds in the sky. Could it really be fall? I have waited so long.

Check out this place for more fall fashion ideas. It's another site like stylesightings.com. I love how the people featured are not all professional designers.

Here is a monday blues cure inspirational image:

I chose this image because my old roommates and I have totally done this before. One night we went to see Diva's in Denial (a drag show) and were given stick on mustaches which we wore all the way home and then had a party, not taking them off of course. My favorite one was on my tree-talking friend, MM, because it was gray and her hair and eyebrows are pitch black. These boys are so cute!! Image from imgfave, no other source.

Fryyyyyday Style Inspiration!

Yes, it's FRIDAY, after yet another week that just ran on by! Yesterday, I started my classes at the university once again. To think that in a few short months, it'll all be over and I'll have a portfolio of research under my belt is so crazy. I am so anxious. This year is going to fly by, exactly like this week. I know it, because it's the same every year. The slowest days are the last ones before due dates (which I am not at all excited for).

I received some pictures today from a photoshoot I did with Bryan N. Miller! I've been excited to see these pictures. I've been waiting patiently. This was a wedding dress search photoshoot. You can see more of his lovely work here. Check out his portfolio and blog! No, I'm not really getting married, but the people in the rest of his portfolio have (and looked beautiful doing it). This was so fun and inspirational for a sketch. Wedding themed? Yes. Coming soon? I hope. I'm working on the baybee themed one as well as some more fall fashion. You're probably thinking, babies... wedding dresses... am I plotting something? No, but a girl can daydream right?! It's all in the near future, no worries, no rush. Happy Friday Everyone!!

P.S. My love hasn't seen these pictures yet. I am so excited to come home and show him. He's cool though, he won't freak out.

Wednesday Wit.

Here's a little outfit sketch I did the other day.

I wrote this letter to the heat today:

Dear End of Summer Heat,
Go away. I want Fall fashion to begin, but it doesn't work if you're still here. So go, please. You can come visit once in a while, hopefully later than sooner, but really, did you not get the memo? Autumn, my love, officially began!

My friend Nicollette told me to watch this:

I needed to share! It's such a cute little fantasy.

Autumn Inspiration

It's the first day of my favorite season! Now, if only the heat would subside and leave us with the cloudy skies and chilly winds of Autumn so I can wear my coats and boots! I'm so excited for hats, scarves, and jackets. I'm even more excited about the cool weather! Today I've been looking at fall fashion and pictures of fall in general.

This is by this pretty picture taker.

HAPPY FALL EQUINOX! To celebrate, listen to this beautiful new song (but try to ignore how trendy it's about to be, it really is a good song).

Also, check out this cool place. There are some amazing fall fashion inspirations!

Monday Blues Cure!

So after an absolutely fantastic weekend in Los Angeles, I'm back to San Diego with tons of work and errands to do (with only a few short days to do them in). So I need this, I really need this. You probably also need this, and here it is! Some inspiration for getting through a tough week and some ideas for art and such:

I've been thinking about babies and kids a lot lately and having dreams and reading mommy blogs (esp this one), so when I saw this it made me smile:
Once again Imgfave has only provided a blog that the image was on. That blog is also where I found this lovely little quote from an unknown author:

"You change for two reasons: either you learn enough that you want to or you’ve been hurt enough that you have to."

I have to agree there. But, back to the baby topic... I think I just found a new sketch theme!!

I also found this super cute sketch today by this artist:

P.S. This is my 50th post. Wow!
