Meek Page 11: Meek Lions

Lucky No. 11! Here is the eleventh sketch of my journal which I finished this afternoon. It will also be the new Meek Lions blog header. [Click on it to see a larger version for the details.] The other week my friend asked me why are the lions specifically "meek"? Well, as I mention in my profile on the right, it's an anagram for the journal I use. Have you guessed it? Fine, I'll give it away! I use a Moleskine and I love it. The color of the pages, the thickness of the pages, the leather cover, and practically everything else about it. For anyone that's interested, meek does not mean weak, even though it does rhyme nicely. So these aren't weak lions at all. They just don't adhere to stereotypes.

Going to start another one soon (love themed). I'm getting some interesting ideas from the love lives of my girl friends.

P.S.
Since I don't have a scanner I have to take photos of the sketches which REALLY throws off the color of the pages. I think I will begin considering buying one.

Daily Inspirrrration. (8)

Hello Monday! I got a lot of inspiration this weekend and I'm almost done with my new blog header!

For the daily I, I really liked these:
I found these through imgfave. The last two are by garance doré. Still trying to decide how to add some color to my sketches. I like this subtle hint of color style.

Daily Inspiration (7)

Ahhhhh it's finally friday! I've got a lot planned this weekend! So aside from the love themed sketch in the works, I'm planning on changing up the layout of this page as well as the header. Exciting! :)

For now, here's some inspiring pictures. I think I just fell in love*:

The artist: Audrey Kawasaki
Found the images through imgfave, and then looked her up and found she has a site (click on her name above).
(This one's my favorite!)

*again.

Have a fantastic weekend!!!

While on the topic of color...

Here is a song and artist I've found recently that I can't stop listening to:
(Amazing use of color in this clip!)

His name is Andrew Bird and the song is called Imitosis. I love his use of the violin in this.

Daily Inspiration... in pink (6)

For the daily inspiration today, I'm in a pink mood. Maybe it's because all these other blogs I follow always post up pictures in "dreamy" pastel colors. It's strange because I normally prefer red to pink. Lately, I've been craving lighter colors. Here are some pretty, pretty images I found using imgfave. Great little site!

Why color all of the sudden? I'm thinking about adding some to my next sketch, which will coincidentally be about love. I'm unsure as to what I will use to color it. Perhaps pencils or pens? Maybe even water color? (I'm asking myself these questions as I write this)

Happy Thursday! It's almost the weekend! :)

Meek Page 10: Keys can open, keys can close

At last I'm done with sketching keys and five dolled up women. I started out wanting to draw dolls, but instead sketched some love struck women and added a hot air balloon (in pencil). The rest of the entry is in pen. I played around with shading in some parts but nothing serious. As promised, the theme is now tied to love. I had the most fun drawing the four women connected by the hair.

As a side note, I (really) need to work on my handwriting.

As a side note to the side note, this is my 10th sketch posted!!

While on the topic of love....

Since we're on this topic, I want to share a song that I find so romantic that I listen to it at least once a day. This usually means I will stop listening to it soon because I will be sick of it but it will go into my vault of favorites forever.

It's by Laura Marling. Isn't her voice amazing?

Daily Inspiration! (5)

Hello! Today I found a lovely image that reminded me of one that my boyfriend and I took a few years ago. I love the idea (even more than ours)!
I found it through imgfave.

This second one is of us in the first or second year of our relationship. These are such cute ideas for a sketch! I think my next theme will be love. Wow, I can't believe I haven't thought of that before. I've had themes like death, feminism, trees, and tonight I'll post the one about keys... but none about love? I think I might know a way to add something about it in my key sketch. Come back around tonight to see it!
